Beatriz Williams’ series titled “Del Patio De Mi Titi” (From My Aunt’s Backyard) serves as an avenue of connection to her birthplace, Puerto Rico. This body of work explores the complexity of her identity through a diasporic lens. The series is a portal through which to view her nostolgia for a place she experiences in fragments. The paintings tap into the surreal through a use of rich color and amalgamated forms. Beatriz closely exmines Puerto Rico’s natural world, re-situating the painter within the realm of its distant familiarities. Portraits of her family members are interwoven within the landscape, highlighting the ancestral connection accesible through the land itself. The work dissolves the seperation between human being and Mother Earth - a reminder of the oneness of all creation.
